Elephant

Elephants (Loxodonta africana in Africa and Elephas maximus in Asia) are the largest land animals on Earth, revered for their intelligence, memory, and deep social bonds. Found in grasslands, forests, and savannas, these herbivores spend most of their day feeding on grasses, leaves, and fruits, consuming up to 150 kilograms (330 pounds) of food daily.

Elephants live in matriarchal herds led by an older female, with strong familial ties that define their lives. They use their trunks for a variety of tasks, from gathering food to communicating with other elephants through touch and sound.

In zoos, elephants are cared for in spacious enclosures designed to replicate their natural habitats. Visitors are often awed by their sheer size and gentle nature. Zoos also raise awareness about the threats elephants face, including poaching for ivory and habitat destruction, while participating in breeding programs to ensure their survival.
