The hamadryas baboon (Papio hamadryas) is a highly social primate known for its striking silver mane and complex social structure. Native to the rocky terrains of the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, these baboons are perfectly adapted to life in harsh environments.
Living in large groups called troops, hamadryas baboons are organized into harems, with a dominant male leading several females. These groups often combine into larger communities for safety and foraging. They primarily feed on grasses, seeds, and small insects, displaying incredible adaptability in their diet.
Hamadryas baboons are also known for their intelligence and teamwork, particularly when protecting their young or evading predators. Unfortunately, their habitats are increasingly encroached upon by human activities, making them vulnerable to population decline.
